Having worked in education for over 35 years and experienced the support of some wonderful governors in that time, Chris decided that, on retirement to make himself available for the same role. He was pleased, therefore, to accept an invitation from Louise Holyoake to become a community governor at Tollgate School. That was in 2007 and since then he has been principally supporting the school in the area of teaching and learning, including links with Year 4 and English. For the last three years he has served as Chair of Governors and worked closely with the school management team and the whole governing body on matters that cover the complete spectrum of school life. He has also been fortunate to share in many school functions and events. Chris’s work on the school radio station project ‘Tollgate FM’ means that he is in the school on a regular basis and has been privileged to observe and understand daily life and how governors can and do support the whole school community. The next few years will see the school addressing both challenges and exciting opportunities and Chris hopes that in an amended and more targeted role he can bring some of his career and governor experience to bear in a supportive and effective way.
