Dave Salmon spent 34 years teaching at Ratton School and retired as Deputy Head. His daughter attended St Andrews and Tollgate School and received a great education at both and benefitted from the wide range of activities offered which are an essential part of School life. David’s oldest brother taught at Tollgate from its opening in 1968 and his association with the School started then. As a Governor for 21 years David always felt comfortable when he entered the School and that is what he wants for the pupils. This leads to the confidence and interest in what they learn in and out of the classroom. It is the opportunities that Tollgate offers that help children progress and become rounded individuals and these are beyond what the National Curriculum happens to be at a particular time. David believes that Governors need to challenge when appropriate. As an example as the School faces expansion there are key areas of safe access that need to be addressed.
